About

a queer fashion rolodex

The Rolodex  of Radical Design is the based in the academic work of Louise Croff Blake (a.k.a. BRICKS, they/them), as the practicum of their master’s thesis at the Akademie of Mode & Design in Berlin, Germany. The guiding ideologies and methodolgies of this project are rooted in queer theory, intersectional feminism, xenofeminism, hacktivism, DIY anarchism, environmentalism, and slow/post-growth fashion.

The founding vision behind the Rolodex is for queer and trans fashion practitioners to co-develop a space for autonomous representation and solidarity. We organize in a way that is flexible, fluid, and ever-evolving. We seek to create visibility for ourselves outside of cis-het fashion systems, while sharing opportunities for skill and resource sharing, mutual aid, and collaboration.

For the full academic background and development process of the Rolodex of Radical Design, find the PDF of the thesis below.

This community of practice is a fashion ecosystem…

What is a FASHION PRACTICE? Like any healthy ecosystem, diversity is key. The Rolodex uses a system of seven main categories to describe the multiplicity of practices represented in our community. These categories are not fixed — based on community and user feedback, they are subject to change and evolve over time, and members can represent themselves under multiple categories.

Fashion practices can look like many different things — even just getting dressed in the morning is a fashion practice! A DIY fashion practice is the perfect fuck-you to the system. We believe that everything from wardrobe hacks, to hand-make garments, to gender consultation and styling can make better, queerer fashion future.

Welcome to the queer fashion pluriverse.
